The Lowther Arms Community Project Ltd (LACP) is a Co-operative and Community Benefit Society created to buy and save the Lowther Arms village pub.

The Project has over 300 shareholders from the local community, and beyond, who came together to raise the money to buy the pub through the sale of Community Shares.

LACP also received support from a number of organisations including the Plunkett Foundation, Key Fund, Co-operatives UK, CAMRA, Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria Community Foundation, Robin Rigg, and the Chamber of Commerce.

LACP are the landlords of the pub and lease to tenants. LACP has set the overall direction of the business as a welcoming, traditional, country pub serving great beer and home-cooked food, and the tenants are free to run the pub as they wish within this broad framework.

LACP retains control of the small caravan and camp site associated with the pub and income generated from this site, plus the tenant’s rent, will enable the Project to continue to invest to maintain the fabric of the building and improve the facilities.  It will also enable the Project to fulfil its obligations as landlord and eventually generate a modest return for investors.  Shares can still be bought – simply follow the ‘Buy Shares’ link.

LACP would like to thank all its shareholders and supporters who have made the re-opening of the Lowther Arms possible!

So, we have some news that we would like to share..

We wanted to let our customers and friends know, that we have decided to move on to our next chapter..

We and our incredible team both past and present have worked extremely hard to make this wonderful pub what it is today, with all the fun and laughter we’ve had along the way, the incredible reviews, achievements and reputation we are so so proud to have achieved- but it’s time for us to persue other projects and allow someone else to take the pub to the next level.

Whilst no leaving date has yet been decided, we want to encourage any customers with gift vouchers to come in and use them as soon as possible.

Future events will still go ahead unless we advise otherwise and we will continue to run the pub as we always have done until a suitable new tenant is found. In other words, quiz nights are still on! The fabulous food will remain and drinks will still be flowing 🥂

We have loved getting to know each and every one of our customers and being part of such a warm and welcoming community and we’d love to see as many of you as possible over the next couple of months.

If anyone has any specific questions then please message the page or give us a call. While some can be answered, many can’t at this stage but like we say, we will continue to serve you in our usual way.

Thank you for your continued support as always 🙏🏻
Carl,Ben, Pam & Madison. ❤️

What a miss you’ll be…… our favourite little cosy pub run by our beautiful friends. You’ve done an amazing job. Must get booked in for a final stay at the pod! xxxxxx

I’m glad for you both but it’s sad for the pub and the village. In an era of so many pub closures I just hope the collective owners manage to get people that can put as much energy into things as you have. It’s a tough ask! I don’t really want to make the Letters Inn my local 😢😢😢

Wow, that didn’t take long, we’ve only been here 4 weeks 😳…….Seriously Michele Pullen and I wish you all the best and thank you for you help in getting us here to this lovely village and community. Cheers 🥂

So sad to hear you're leaving! Gutted! We're going to miss your happy, smiley faces when we visit, your hosting and attention to detail, the food.... you've transformed the pub! Wishing you all the success for your future adventures, may all your dreams come true, much love Sue & Jon Gale

It has been a great pub with great food and impeccable service We have a voucher purchased at Xmas from my son, but unfortunately we won't be in Cumbria until March , as we have a van on North Lakes caravan park and live 3hrs away please advise us as to what we can do . Thanks x

Good Luck for your next adventure. May be a bit early to ask but do you know what will happen to the campsite? We were going to book in for the opening dates. Cheers
