The Lowther Arms is a traditional country pub in the heart of Mawbray village, close to the sea on the Solway Plain in north-west Cumbria. Set in peaceful countryside and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site Buffer Zone, we are surrounded by stunning views of the Lakes and Scotland.
Although tenanted, The Lowther Arms is a cooperative and community-owned pub, saved from permanent closure and conversion to a house by the local community and over 300 shareholders.
After being closed for two and a half years, the pub re-opened in June 2021, and is now more than a pub – offering a comfortable place to have a drink, enjoy a meal, meet with friends, or simply a quiet corner to read in. Whether you are a local, a visitor, walker, or cyclist, come and relax in our lovely pub with its beer garden and stunning views of the Lake District.
Our 4-pitch caravan site is open and booking is highly advisable. We have 3 pitches for tourers and motorhomes, a Pod, plus camping.

Myself and Tony are overwhelmed with all the comments of well wishes, cards and the beautiful bouquet of flowers we recieved this morning from LACP Community.
1st day has been amazing thank you to everyone that came today whether it was for food or just drinks we really appreciate it! And looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Our time at The Lowther Arms has come to an end! From what started as something we knew could become something so special, through the incredible work of our irreplaceable brilliant team both past and present, now draws to a close, showing that we have built something truly unique and wonderful in the heart of Mawbray.
We have made the MOST incredible memories with our amazing customers who have turned out in droves to wish us well on our departure, for that we are truly grateful 🙏🏻
Our amazing food that has been produced with care and love, drinks served with a hint (Whack) of banter from our front of house, the campsite where families have made memories! The continual renovation which has flourished through the years. We would not change a thing. But especially, our truly incredible team- we will be eternally grateful for the work and friendships we carry forward into our new chapter, this couldn’t have been achieved without you.
And Pam.. now you can officially semi-retire! 😂

***CUSTOMER INFORMATION- SATURDAY 14th MARCH***
As Saturday 14th is our last trading day before Emma and Tony take over on 15th, we wanted to share our plans for that day!
We will be open as normal 12-11pm and serving food 12-7.30pm.
Bookings only for the evening 5-7.30pm and you will need book your table fast as we have a large party in already so tables are limited. No walk ins on the evening.
We are expecting to be quite busy so please bare with us and if you’re popping in for a drink and we ask for the table back for a booking, please don’t be offended.
Tables will become free again from 8pm onwards so don’t panic! 😱
The bar will be open until 11pm and we would love to see as many of you as possible for the final farewell!
Emma & Tony have a fantastic Mothering Sunday planned, with fresh Sunday roasts, as you’ve all become accustomed to, and a really warm welcome so do get booked in for that too!

What an amazing evening we’ve had and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your support to help all the money we have raised for the play park and the charities since we opened!
You’ve all put in such effort with the themes..(some more than others) and your kindness tonight makes it all worth while!
We hope you enjoyed seeing Tom tonight as we couldn’t do it without him, let’s face it!
