The Lowther Arms Community Project Ltd (LACP) is a Co-operative and Community Benefit Society created to buy and save the Lowther Arms village pub.
The Project has over 300 shareholders from the local community, and beyond, who came together to raise the money to buy the pub through the sale of Community Shares.
LACP also received support from a number of organisations including the Plunkett Foundation, Key Fund, Co-operatives UK, CAMRA, Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria Community Foundation, Robin Rigg, and the Chamber of Commerce.
LACP are the landlords of the pub and lease to tenants. LACP has set the overall direction of the business as a welcoming, traditional, country pub serving great beer and home-cooked food, and the tenants are free to run the pub as they wish within this broad framework.
LACP retains control of the small caravan and camp site associated with the pub and income generated from this site, plus the tenant’s rent, will enable the Project to continue to invest to maintain the fabric of the building and improve the facilities. It will also enable the Project to fulfil its obligations as landlord and eventually generate a modest return for investors. Shares can still be bought – simply follow the ‘Buy Shares’ link.

***CUSTOMER INFORMATION- SATURDAY 14th MARCH***
As Saturday 14th is our last trading day before Emma and Tony take over on 15th, we wanted to share our plans for that day!
We will be open as normal 12-11pm and serving food 12-7.30pm.
Bookings only for the evening 5-7.30pm and you will need book your table fast as we have a large party in already so tables are limited. No walk ins on the evening.
We are expecting to be quite busy so please bare with us and if you’re popping in for a drink and we ask for the table back for a booking, please don’t be offended.
Tables will become free again from 8pm onwards so don’t panic! 😱
The bar will be open until 11pm and we would love to see as many of you as possible for the final farewell!
Emma & Tony have a fantastic Mothering Sunday planned, with fresh Sunday roasts, as you’ve all become accustomed to, and a really warm welcome so do get booked in for that too!

And that’s a wrap on our quiz nights!
What an amazing evening we’ve had and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your support to help all the money we have raised for the play park and the charities since we opened!
You’ve all put in such effort with the themes..(some more than others) and your kindness tonight makes it all worth while!
We hope you enjoyed seeing Tom tonight as we couldn’t do it without him, let’s face it!

Urgent Customer Update
Unfortunately we are going to have to move the Sunday social to next Sunday 8th March due to a major fault in our cellar meaning we are unable to pour any draft beer, lager, cider or Guinness!
We are sorry for the short notice of this but it is completely out of our control.

With the exciting news that LACP have appointed Emma & Tony as the new tenants of the pub, we wanted to share some information about the transition.
💷Gift Vouchers-
All purchased gift vouchers will be valid until Saturday 14th March. We would encourage you to use them before this date.
🎉Lowther Fest 2-
Great news! Lowther Fest will be going ahead as planned and Emma and Tony will be working hard to make sure it’s a huge success! All purchased tickets will still be valid.
🍔Bookings for food-
Bookings are open as normal, via the link on our website, calling us or sending us a message. Be quick for Mother’s Day as it’s filling up fast! All advanced bookings for 2026 are also still valid.
🔑Handover date-
Our last day running the pub will be Saturday 14th March and Emma & Tony will be taking over from Sunday 15th. We would love to see as many of you as possible in the next 2 weeks so please do pop in and say hi. 👋
🏕️Campsite-
The campsite will remain open and all bookings will be honoured after the handover.
