The Lowther Arms Community Project Ltd (LACP) is a Co-operative and Community Benefit Society created to buy and save the Lowther Arms village pub.
The Project has over 300 shareholders from the local community, and beyond, who came together to raise the money to buy the pub through the sale of Community Shares.
LACP also received support from a number of organisations including the Plunkett Foundation, Key Fund, Co-operatives UK, CAMRA, Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria Community Foundation, Robin Rigg, and the Chamber of Commerce.
LACP are the landlords of the pub and lease to tenants. LACP has set the overall direction of the business as a welcoming, traditional, country pub serving great beer and home-cooked food, and the tenants are free to run the pub as they wish within this broad framework.
LACP retains control of the small caravan and camp site associated with the pub and income generated from this site, plus the tenant’s rent, will enable the Project to continue to invest to maintain the fabric of the building and improve the facilities. It will also enable the Project to fulfil its obligations as landlord and eventually generate a modest return for investors. Shares can still be bought – simply follow the ‘Buy Shares’ link.
LACP would like to thank all its shareholders and supporters who have made the re-opening of the Lowther Arms possible!

Good morning!
So we still have no power and expected time of restoration is not until 6pm, so we have taken the difficult decision to close today and postpone the quiz and we will come back to everyone with a new date by tomorrow.
We apologise for any inconvenience but it is completely out of our control. ... See MoreSee Less

Do you have power now? Xx
Gives me longer to ‘revise’ on current affairs 🤣🤣🤣
🌙 Good evening! ⭐️
Sorry for such a late post! But currently Mawbray is without power!⚡️
ENW have advised 6pm tomorrow is the estimated reconnection time, this of course means we will potentially not open through the day tomorrow- we still, hopefully, hope to hold our monthly quiz but we will keep everyone informed!
🫶🏻 Stay safe through storm Bram! Hopefully see you tomorrow 🙏🏻 ... See MoreSee Less

Leave elves Ben and Yvonne alone for 2 minutes and they start fighting over their favourite bottle of wine Balauri Pinot Noir.
As if the real two would do this (they would and actually do regularly)!
Why not join us for a bottle yourself or a bite to eat. We are looking particularly busy this weekend so please remember to book to avoid disappointment.
Next weeks Christmas bookings are now closed but we still have availability for the final week before Christmas so do be sure to book NOW! ... See MoreSee Less

Hope that’s a full bottle 😂
You should be a faithful not a traitor 😂
Thank you all for coming to our second Sunday social! A great night had by all.
Please can we remind you that we have a car park to the rear of the pub and there is strictly no parking directly outside the front of the building. Please use the parking facilities before parking on the grassed area across the road from the pub.
Thank you. ... See MoreSee Less
